The Historical Society operates by volunteers and is only as good as its participants. Please take a look at the opportunities that we have for you to help to continue in making this Organization one of the best. If you are interested or have questions, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator via email, phone: leave your name and message at (408) 615-2986, or fill out the following online form.
There is an immediate need for an Editor who compiles information, writes articles, and encourages others to write articles on Santa Clara County histories and genealogies as well as interesting articles on members and other stories. The Editor then arranges the stories in the Society’s journal — Connections. The journal is published twice a year, typically in the spring and fall. Connections also features transcriptions of records often found in museums and churches. Training will be provided and direction will be given on how to discover articles by researching possibilities and sending out requests.
An assistant is usually available to help with the production of Connections.
Please contact our former Connections editor, Trina Gentry, at firstname.lastname@example.org, for more information about the Editor position or the mainling team position.
Connections Mailing Team
Two or three volunteers are needed to arrange the printing and mailing of two issues of Connections each year - once in the spring and once in the fall.
Do you enjoy paper crafts? The Library Committee is in need of a volunteer to perform book binding and repair. Tools and supplies are provided. Work can be done in our work room or at your home. Rebind new books that come with spiral bindings, sewing and gluing the book block and applying a new label. Fabricate bindings for pamphlets and odd items. Repair books with loose pages and weakening spine hinges. You can learn the specific skills. We will appreciate your craftsmanship.
We need a group of volunteers to maintain software and updates on three computers. Committee members would also set up any new computers, recommend software upgrades, and recommend a back-up plan. An immediate need is to look into a problem with the scanning feature of the printer.
Indexers of early BMD Records
Our society is indexing the early Santa Clara County birth, death, and marriage records from microfilm in the library. Several work together on Saturday mornings and some work individually at other times of the week.
Member Spotlight Columnist
The Spot-light column occasionally features a member in the newsletter. As the columnist, you may interview the subject in person, by telephone, or by e-mail and then write a half- to full-page article on his or her life story, interests, and genealogical research areas.
Amazon Smile Program Coordinator
This is a new position for the purpose of looking into the possibility of SCCHGS becoming a part of the Amazon Smile Program wherein a person ordering from Amazon through Amazon Smile would have a small portion of their purchase price donated to SCCHGS. If becoming a part of the program was decided by the Board to be desirable, the coordinator would communicate with Amazon to set it up and maintain it.
