Volunteer Opportunities
The Historical Society operates by
volunteers and is only as good as its participants.
Please take a look at the opportunities that we have for you
to help to continue in making this Organization one of the
best. If you are interested or have questions,
please contact the Volunteer Coordinator via email,
phone: leave your name and message at (408) 615-2986, or fill out the following online form.
Technology Committee Members
Are you a 'techie'? Do you like working with computers? We are looking for people who can install and update equipment as well as answer questions about its uses. We would like volunteers who are very comfortable with computers, software and peripherals, but you don’t need to be an expert to be on this committee.
Newsletter Mailers
The Newsletter Mailing Committee is looking for people to help fold, tape and label newsletters. They meet in the library from 9:00-11:00am on the 3rd Friday of each month, except July and November.
Greeters for General Meetings
We need volunteers to greet visitors at the door and have them sign in for meetings. If you are a member and would like to do this, please add your name to the sign up sheet, and arrive at 6:30 pm on the day of the meeting.
Indexers
- Early BMD records: Our society is indexing the early Santa Clara birth, death, and marriage records from microfilm in the library. We’ve made good progress on this project, but there is still a lot of indexing to do. The work will need to be done in the library, but you can set your own hours.
- Name Index for "Cemeteries of Santa Clara": For this new project, we will be creating a name index for a book of pictures entitled Cemeteries of Santa Clara, by Bea Lichtenstein. The book is a part of the Images of America Series, and the Santa Clara library has a number of copies available to check out. The indexing can be done in your home, at your convenience.
Back up person
Positions such as the Newsletter Editor, Program Chair, and Treasurer, perform very specific jobs vital to the organization. We would like to have volunteers who can step in if one of these people can’t do that job for some reason, such as illness or vacation. The current volunteers are willing to train you now so that you will have some experience when you are needed.
Connections Reporters
Connections Reporters: Our Connections Editor is looking for members who would like to research and type articles for the bi-yearly publication of historical families, homes and neighborhoods in Santa Clara County. Publications are completed in April and October of each year.
Video Transcribers
Person who would be able to watch and create a written transcription of the words spoken in videotaped oral history interviews. Videotapes are usually 1 to 2 hours in length. Library has samples of previous transcriptions that can be used as models in formatting the transcript. DVD copies of the videotapes will be loaned to volunteer so they may be taken home to view for transcribing purposes.
