Gen Techniques "Locating US Military Records" - Hybrid Event
Gen Techniques "Locating US Military Records" - Hybrid Event
January 14, 2026 10:15 am - 12:00 pm
Zoom or Central Park Library (Redwood Room)
Finding U.S. military records is challenging due to the 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center which destroyed millions of files, compounded by privacy restrictions, the scattered nature of records across multiple repositories, limited online availability, and the fact that earlier records often lack detailed personal information. However, records can be found and we will learn how in this session. This class is led by Nancy Moffett.
We are now running these meetings both in-person and on Zoom. Registration is required:

Beyond Names and Dates: Filling in the Stories of Our Female Ancestors by Pam Vestal - Zoom Event
Beyond Names and Dates: Filling in the Stories of Our Female Ancestors by Pam Vestal - Zoom Event
January 20, 2026 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Online meeting via Zoom, register here.
For most of recorded time, women didn't leave much of a paper trail, but they still had remarkable stories to tell. Although it may appear that they haven't left many documents behind, deeper research into underutilized records often leads to a better understanding of the women in our family trees. In this talk, we'll explore a variety of records, and also look at local history, the law, politics, and the cataclysmic events that confronted them to help us bring their hidden stories to light.
Pam Vestal is a professional genealogist and speaker who turned her focus to her longtime love of genealogy after a 20-year writing career. Her articles have appeared in the National Genealogical Society Magazine and The Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly, and her lectures take her from coast to coast. Pam specializes in conducting genealogical research and then transforming that information into illustrated stories that even non-genealogists can enjoy.
A recording of Pam's presentation will be available in the Members Area on www.scchgs.org until 17 February 2026.

Heritage Pavilion, Central Park Library, 2635 Homestead Rd, Santa Clara, CA 95051, USA
Please join us for SCCHGS’s January “Sunday Society Social!” We invite all to come and meet other genealogists, work on your research, share your great finds, perhaps break through a brick wall! Bring your computer and or your research files, ask peers for help, or offer assistance to others. There will be a brief discussion about some of the materials available at the library, perhaps you’ll find that missing piece to help in your research. We are located upstairs in the Heritage Pavilion. This is a registered event as space is limited. Registration Here Flyer Link
